The Special Called Meeting of the Mayor and Council convened at 6:32 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2020 with the announcement of a quorum.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Mayor Walter Turner, Danny Perkins, Erie Barker, Tiffany Coker and Libby Bond.

MEMBERS NOT PRESENT: Walker Moore and Chris Mason

ADOPTION OF PROPOSED AGENDA

Libby Bond made a motion to adopt the Agenda for the February 27, 2020 meeting as proposed. Erie Barker seconded the motion. Mayor Walter Turner, Danny Perkins and Tiffany Coker voted in favor. The motion passed.

BUSINESS

Resolution for entering Contract with Georgia Department of Humans Services

City Clerk, Pam Dowdy read a Resolution to enter contract into with the Georgia Department of Human Services on behalf of Taylor County Family Connection and to allow the Mayor of the city to sign contractual agreements.

Discussion on backhoe purchase

Public Works Director, Scott Jones received quotes on 3 or more backhoes as requested by Council in previous meeting. The last quote he received was with a $48,000 government discount. The company with the government contract had the backhoe available for Council to view during meeting. During the meeting Scott Jones was contacted by phone with questions. Council discussed at length options for purchasing a backhoe without “bells & whistles” (i.e. cab and air conditioning) for use by the Public Works Department.

Libby Bond made a motion for the Property Committee to meet with the Public Works Director about purchasing a used backhoe with an extended hoe, costing not more than $50,000. Danny Perkins seconded the motion. Mayor Walter Turner, Erie Barker and Tiffany Coker voted in favor. The motion passed.
